On Day 10 we cooked dinner for Cathy and Phoebe, we decided to make good old Aussie Hamburgers; Beef, Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Beetroot, Cooked Onions, Bacon, Fried Egg (runny yolk, of course), Aioli and Tomato Sauce. You know the ones that are so big you can't get your mouth around them?? That is what we were going for!! And we succeeded, everyone had egg up to there armpits and burger failing everywhere, it was glorious!! Everyone extremely enjoyed there Aussie Hamburger experience. A special mention went to Jo's delicious Aioli (now officially world famous).
Day 11 we spent a little time before bed star gazing!! It was amazing all the different stars we could now see due to being in the northern hemisphere. Most notably 'The Big Dipper' which is similar to the southern hemisphere's 'Saucepan'. We saw multiple shooting stars, but I had to keep mentioning to Jo to stop wishing for me because I was already there.
Day 12 we finished our working week and now have two days off. It has been a labour intensive week for us and we have a few aches and pains, the life of an organic farmer is very, very hard work!! On our days off we plan to checkout Tofino for a night and then head back to the farm via Ucuelet on Monday. Both towns are on the west coast of Vancouver Island and are said to be popular 'Beach' towns so we are keen to check out what all the fuss is about. We only have one more day of work on the farm - next Tuesday before we make our way back to Vancouver and then onto our Rocky Mountain road trip.

After dinner we decided to brave the locals at the Fish n Duck (nearby watering hole) and HOLEY MOLEY what an experience it was!! Firstly, we shared a jug of 'Bushwhacker' with the other WWOOFers, from what we understand the Bushwhacker is a near deadly concoction of Kaluah, Baileys, Vodka, a few more liqueurs that we cant remember and ice. We met Brittanie, no not Britney, B-R-I-T-T-?-N-?-E she slurred as she was trying to remember how to in fact spell and annunciate her own name all the while trying not to fall 10 meters of a balcony to her certain death. Let's just say she was suitably inebriated. After telling us she loved us all, she staggered away and continued to attempt to court the lead singer of the band by taking off her shirt and giving him a back massage (PG version of events). Never a dull moment at the Fish n Duck. We arrived home just after 0100 for a much needed rest.

those burgers sounds scrum-diddily-umcious (check out that adjective, adjective that!). did they like them? Not exactly a first date meal but def a winner! Jose will have to make the aioli back here. We have recently made another pulled pork which worked out wonderfully but still room for improvement. will have to whip it up for you when you return.
ReplyDeleteSo Jose hasnt always been the biggest fan of Kale. did it work in the patties?
How many WWOOFers you met up with? you like being a WWOOFer? kind of like a inner circle type thing?
Brittne sounds lovely. real keeper as a friend. shame she didnt stick around long enough to get her contact details.
I'm quite anxious to hear about your time at Tofino. please blog in the near future. drive safe!
