Important information was left out of the last blog in regards to Day 33. We will quickly cover it here. Last night we had an exquisite french dinner to celebrate our last night in Montreal. We had the duck confit and salmon tartare for mains and for dessert we indulged in creme brulee, it was divine, however still not as good as Jessica Christie's!
Day 34 and we bid Montreal adieu. We headed to a popular place for breakfast , l’avenue de plateau, that was famous for Eggs Benedict among other things. We lined up for about 15 mins before getting a table, we both had Eggs Benny and they were only ok. We had a great week in Montreal eating, drinking and seeing the sights. Our train didn’t leave Montreal til the late afternoon, so we spent sometime ‘frisbee frowing’ and watching the locals drumming in Mont Royal Park before heading to the train. We arrived back in Toronto around 2200 and it felt good to be back.

Day 35 was Labour Day
public holiday in Canada. It also is a pretty grim day for the Canadians as it
signifies the end of summer. As you can imagine it would be pretty upsetting
knowing all the snow, sleet, ice rain and -20 are right around the corner! We
didn’t get up to much today, Eddie took us out for some breakfast and then we
spent the rest of the day regrouping and frisbee frowing.
Day 36 and all our
local accomplishes are back at work. Today we headed out for a coffee and
breakfast before heading downtown to find out a little more about the Toronto
International Film Festival (TIFF). We didn’t have many options due to only
being in Toronto for the first day of the festival and the two films we wanted
to see being world premieres. Tonight we made Sam, Eric and Eddie dinner to
thank them for having us. Casesar salad with the works.
Day 37 was a beautiful
day and we were heading out to the Toronto Islands, the islands are a small. We
walked towards Lake Ontario and grabbed a coffee on the way. We eventually
found the ferry terminal and headed over to the islands. The islands parks were
very well maintained and had beautiful flowers everywhere in full bloom. We
grabbed some lunch before having a walk around and heading back to the
mainland. We managed to stay away from the clothing optional section of the
islands, lucky, eh! Today was a huge walking day, Jo had by now developed some
substantial blisters and I had worn the sole out of 3 pairs of Nikes.

Day 38 and you guessed
it we went for a coffee!! Today we
planned to spend the day doing some shopping. Let’s just say today went to
plan. We had been recommended a Vegan restaurant for lunch called ‘Fresh’. Jo claims that it was one of the meals
of the trip and I can’t raise much rebuttal because the food was amazing.
Day 39, Carn the
Swans!! I arose early with great anticipation as the Swans semi-final game was
being televised, albeit a few hours delayed. This meant no early morning score
checks. I sprung out of bed a little earlier than Jo so I headed out to grab
some coffee, bagels and croissants (I know what your thinking, Is this guy
single? Sorry ladies I’m taken). Jo staggered down stairs to the smell of a
Americano’s and French style pastries with her iPad in hand ready to watch the
footy. The game was drawn at half time and very exciting, let’s not talk about
what happened after half time.
After the game we patriotically headed for the Australian Consulate to
vote in the federal election. We were disappointed there were no sausage sangas
being charcoaled on a barbie but it was good to have a chat a couple a
strayans, who in true strayan form had also left voting to the very last
minute.
Aussie (more than
likely a Queenslander); G’day bloke, which flamin’ galah are youse voting for??
Mitch; I’m not sure,
the one with the best policies??
Aussie; Struth, youse
ain’t from Queenslands is ya??
Mitch; No, we are from
NSW.
Aussie; Oh bloody
hell, what bout your sheila??
Mitch; Yes, we are
both from Newcastle, NSW
Aussie; Right (turns
away as if to feel insignificant around New South Welshmen)
Mitch; (looks to Jo
and shrugs shoulder with smugness)
Aussie; Aye, have
youse got any Vegemite??
(The above
conversation may or may have not even remotely taken place.)
Post vote we walked
our way though the city to the TIFF red carpet. The world premiere of ‘The
Railway Man’ a film starring Colin Firth and our Nicole Kidman was having a red
carpet and we perched up like a couple of groupies ready for a glimpse of Colin
and Nicole. I managed to get some extremely close up footage of Nicole Kidman
with my GoPro camera and Jo got some snaps on the other camera, Nicole was very
beautiful in person. Brad Pitt had a movie premier on at the same time and we
both asked ourselves why we chose Nic over Brad but I think it came down to
supporting the aussie?
